Mrs. Grefe
Hello!  My name is Kari Grefe and I teach English as a Second Language (ESL) in your child’s kindergarten classroom.
I am very happy to be back in the kindergarten classes at Andersen.   I teach in A106, A107, A112, A117, & A118.  This is my 7th year teaching ESL and 11th year teaching kindergarteners!  Before becoming an ESL teacher I taught Title 1 reading to kindergarteners and first graders.
 What we do
Your child receives 30-40 minutes of direct English instruction every day.  I co-teach with your child’s teacher in the subject areas of Science and Social Studies.  The primary focus of ESL in Kindergarten is to develop your child’s oral language skills in listening and speaking in English.
Your child will practice effective speaking and listening skills and develop their academic vocabulary through fun songs, games, and other interactive activities about the science or social studies topic.

Here are some of the fun topics we will learn about this year:
Science
Butterfly life cycle
Farm animals
Pumpkin life cycle
Plants
Weather / seasons
Trees
Animal habitats

Social Studies
Families / traditions
Celebrations around the World
Geography
Economics (wants and needs/ goods and services)

I am looking forward to a wonderful year full of fun and learning!
